patentdeclarationsreceived(seewww.iso.org/patents).Anytradenameusedinthisdocumentisinformationgivenfortheconvenienceofusersanddoesnotconstituteanendorsement.Foranexplanationofthevoluntarynatureofstandards,themeaningofISOspecifictermsandexpressionsrelatedtoconformityassessment,aswellasinformationaboutISO'sadherencetotheWorldTradeOrganization(WTO)principlesintheTechnicalBarrierstoTrade(TBT),seewww.iso.org/iso/foreword.html.InternationalWorkshopAgreementIWA42wasapprovedataworkshophostedbytheBritishStandardsInstitution(BSI),inassociationwithOur2050World,heldvirtuallyinSeptember2022.Inordertorespondtourgentmarketrequirements,InternationalWorkshopAgreementsarepreparedthroughaworkshopmechanismoutsideofISOcommitteestructures,followingaprocedurethatensuresthebroadestrangeofrelevantinterestedpartiesworldwidehavetheopportunitytoparticipate,andareapprovedbyconsensusamongsttheindividualparticipantsintheworkshops.IfthereisanexistingISOcommitteewhosescopecoversthetopic,thepublishedInternationalWorkshopAgreementisautomaticallyallocatedtothiscommitteeformaintenance.AnInternationalWorkshopAgreementisreviewedthreeyearsafteritspublicationandcanbefurtherprocessedtobecomeaPubliclyAvailableSpecification,aTechnicalSpecificationoranInternationalStandard,accordingtothemarketrequirement.AnInternationalWorkshopAgreementcanexistforamaximumofsixyears,followingwhichitiseitherwithdrawnorconvertedintoanotherISOdocument.Anyfeedbackorquestionsonthisdocumentshouldbedirectedtotheuser’snationalstandardsbody.Acompletelistingofthesebodiescanbefoundatwww.iso.org/members.html.v©ISO2022–AllrightsreservedLicensedtoTimWang(laowang.gw@163.com)fromCCTCbyISO/CS2023-06-18SponsoredbyISOtosupportglobalclimateefforts.Unauthorizedreproductionordistributionisprohibited.IWA42:2022(E)Introduction0.1GeneralClimatechangeisoneofthemostpressingchallengesthatourworldfaces.ScientificassessmentsthroughtheIntergovernmentalPanelonClimateChange(IPCC)reportshaveshownthatmanyoftheworstconsequencesofclimatechangecanbeavoidedbylimitingglobalwarmingto1,5°Cabovepre-industriallevels.Theglobaltemperatureisalreadyover1°Cabovepre-industriallevels,andscenariosassessedbytheIPCCindicatethatlimitingwarmingto1,5°C,withnoorlimitedtemperatureovershoot,requiresachievingatleastnetzeroglobalcarbondioxide(CO2)emissionsintheearly2050s,alongwithdeepandsustainedglobalreductionsinothergreenhousegasemissions(GHGs)[15][16].Thesescenariosalsoshowthattheearlierandfasteremissionreductionsoccur,thelowerpeakwarmingandthelowerthelikelihoodofovershootingwarminglimits.PeakwarmingdependsoncumulativeCO2emissionsfromthebeginningoftheindustrialperioduptothetimetheyarereducedtonetzero,combinedwiththechangeinnon-CO2emissionsontheclimatesystem,bythetimethetemperaturepeaks.Thisdocumentprovidesguidingprinciplesandrecommendationstoenableacommonapproachwithahighlevelofambition,todriveorganizationstoachievenetzeroGHGsassoonaspossibleandby2050atthelatest.Itisintendedtobeacommonreferenceforgovernanceorganizations(includingvoluntaryinitiatives,adoptionofstandards,policyandnationalandinternationalregulation),andcanhelporganizationstakingactiontocontributetoachievingglobalnetzero.Thisdocumentshouldbeinterpretedandusedinlinewithitspurposeandscopetomaintainandpromotethehighestpossibleclimateambition.Thisdocumentdoesnotaddresslegalandotherobligationsrelatingtoclimateaction.Thisdocumentbuildsonprogressbyvoluntaryinitiatives,campaignsandgovernance,supportingtheirpurposeofprogressingtoaclimatepositivefuture,increasingtheirreachandenablingamoreconsistentapproachforfutureinterventionsanddeliverables,includingISOstandards.The2015ParisAgreement[17]statestheimportanceofachievingaglobalbalancebetweenhuman-causedemissionsbysourcesandhuman-ledremovalsbysinksinthesecondhalfofthe21stcentury,takingintoaccountvaryingcapabilitiesindifferentpartsoftheworld,onthebasisofequity,andinthecontextofsustainabledevelopmentandeffortstoeradicatepoverty.Thisdocumentthereforeincludesrecommendationsonequityandwiderimpact.Thescopeofthisdocumentisalignedtotheobjectivesofthe“High-LevelExpertGroupontheNetZeroEmissionsCommitmentsofNon-StateEntities”,formedattherequestoftheUnitedNations(UN)SecretaryGeneral,andotherUNdevelopments,includingtheUnitedNationsFrameworkConventiononClimateChange(UNFCCC).SomeinitiativesandpolicieslimitactionsrelatingtonetzeroGHGemissionstothoseemissionsandremovalsunderthedirectcontrolofthereportingorganization.ThisdocumentpromotesandgivesguidanceontakingactiontoaddressallGHGemissions,directandindirect,inanorganization’svaluechain.0.2UseofthisdocumentInthisdocument,thefollowingverbalformsareused:—“should”indicatesarecommendation;—“may”indicatesapermission;—“can”indicatesapossibilityoracapability.Informationmarkedas“NOTE”isintendedtoassisttheunderstandingoruseofthedocument.“Notestoentry”usedinClause3provideadditionalinformationthatsupplementstheterminologicaldataandcancontainprovisionsrelatingtotheuseofaterm.vi©ISO2022–AllrightsreservedLicensedtoTimWang(laowang.gw@163.com)fromCCTCbyISO/CS2023-06-18SponsoredbyISOtosupportglobalclimateeffort
